We were the first NHS Hospital to set up a successful IVF programme in the West Midlands and this year the Centre for Reproductive Medicine is celebrating its 20th anniversary. In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) was first undertaken at the Centre for Reproductive Medicine in 1990 following a successful charity appeal to set up the unit. Our services have developed considerably since then, and we have now carried out nearly 10,000 cycles of IVF and ICSI to date in addition to thousands of other treatments.
All our outpatient clinics and diagnostic services are provided as NHS services. Approximately half of the IVF and ICSI treatments we undertake are NHS funded but we also provide treatment to self funding patients.
The service is provided by a friendly multi disciplinary team of 30 who together bring considerable experience and expertise in the field. We also hold combined clinics with specialists in endocrinology and urology (male factor infertility) and have close links with Genetics and Biochemistry. The team works closely with other experts in the related areas of gynaecology, early pregnancy and obstetrics to provide a seamless service. Patients have the safety of being treated in a major hospital with state-of-the-art facilities very close at hand.
Research is an important part of our activity and is undertaken in collaboration with the University of Warwick, one of the leading research institutions in the UK. Training is also an important part of our work. We train doctors and scientists learning to specialise in this field as well as providing professional development opportunities for our own staff.
Our 6 year old purpose built facility was the first clinical phase of the new University Hospital located near Junction 2 of the M6.
