The purpose built Centre for Reproductive Medicine based at the University Hopspital in Coventry has state-of-the-art facilities that contribute to both clinical excellence and patient comfort.
In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) was first undertaken at the Centre in 1990. The services have developed considerably and many thousands of cycles of IVF and ICSI have now been carried out. We have pregnancy rates which above the national average.
The outpatient clinics and diagnostic services are provided as NHS services with approximately half of the IVF and ICSI treatments funded by the NHS. The remainder is provided on a self funded basis.
We offer the following services:
The experienced multi disciplinary team works closely with experts in gynaecology, early pregnancy and obstetrics to provide a seamless service. Combined clinics are held with specialists in endocrinology and urology, as well as having well established links with Genetics and Biochemistry.
Research is an important part of our activity and is undertaken in collaboration with the University of Warwick, one of the leading research institutions in the UK. Training is considered an important part of our work. We train doctors and scientists learning to specialise in this field as well as providing professional development for our own staff.
Clinics are held at the department’s purpose built facility on the site of the University Hospital. The centre holds nurse led and consultant led clinics in the following areas:
• General infertility
• Miscarriage
• Reproductive endocrinology
• HyCoSy
• Male Infertility
GPs are welcome to refer patients to the Centre for Reproductive Medicine in accordance with NICE guidelines - where the couple has been trying to conceive for one year. The CRM requires a GP referral letter, it does not have to be a Dear Doctor letter. The responsibilities of the Primary Care Provider in referring a couple with fertility issues must ensure they:
• Check rubella status of female
• Ensure smears are up to date
• Refer male for semen analysis to CRM or other laboratory which complies with the NEQAS standard
• Check Day 21 progesterone levels for ovulation (assuming a regular cycle)
• Give general health advice on fertility and conception (including weight, smoking and Folic Acid)
