Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultant Stephen Cooke at University Hospital has been awarded the accolade of Trainer of the Year from the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association.
The British Orthopaedic Trainees Association gives this annual award to Orthopaedic clinicians who trainees believe have gone above and beyond to deliver high standards of training. They also believe that it leads to greater acknowledgement within the specialty of orthopaedics that training is not only rewarding, but is vital to ensuring that the UK continues to produce surgeons of the highest standard.
Orthopaedic Trainee John McArthur nominated Stephen for this award. In his nomination he described Stephen as: “approachable, supportive and an inspirational consultant who delivers a clinically excellent service and who provides fantastic training”.
John went on to say: “Stephen has only been a qualified paediatric orthopaedic consultant for the last 18 months but his enthusiasm about training was evident from the beginning. He puts his trust in all his trainees and gives them as many opportunities as possible to be involved in orthopaedic surgery and encourages them to push themselves and their abilities.”
Stephen is very honoured to have received this award and said: “I am very flattered that the trainees I teach nominated me for this award. As a newly qualified consultant I wanted to ensure the level of teaching and training I delivered was up to the same high standard of that I received. I would like to thank John and his peers who nominated me and I hope the training we provide at UHCW continues to beneficial and effective.”
