New Non-Executive Board Changes at UHCW NHS Trust

UHCW NHS Trust is pleased to announce new Non-Executive Board changes.

Professor Peter Winstanley, the Dean of Medicine at Warwick Medical School, and Dr Paul Sabapathy CBE, have been appointed as the Non-Executive Directors for a four year time basis until 16th August 2016.

Professor Winstanley said: “I am delighted with my appointment and hope this will build on the close relationship already established between the University of Warwick and UHCW NHS Trust.”

Dr Paul Sabapathy said: “I look forward to working with partners in the local health economy in providing citizens with high quality, patient centred, integrated care. I am passionate about the NHS as our family has received and continues to receive wonderful care from the NHS.I want to join UHCW NHS Trust to continue giving my expertise so others can also benefit, from high quality NHS care at a time when it faces great challenge and opportunity.’’

Philip Townshend, Chairman of UHCW NHS Trust said: “We have been extremely fortunate to recruit two highly experienced, highly knowledgeable individuals with a wealth of experience across the health sector and who will be key in ensuring the Trust achieves Foundation Trust status.

“In the case of Professor Winstanley, his appointment will cement even further the relationship between us as a university hospital and our partnership with Warwick Medical School as well as bringing detailed clinical knowledge to the Trust Board.

“In the case of Dr Sabapathy we are fortunate indeed to have recruited an individual who has had a remarkably high profile career in both public and private sector having been a former Chief Executive and Chair of NHS organisations in Birmingham and also with a distinguished academic career as well as holding the post of Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County of the West Midlands.

“These key appointments will help us develop the services we are able to offer in partnership with other NHS organisations in the local health economy.”

The Trust is also pleased to announce that Nick Stokes has also been re-appointed as a Non-Executive Director until March 2013.

The decisions were made in keeping with the Appointments Commission process.

Mr Paul Sabapathy has not declared any political activities although in terms of ministerial appointments, he has held positions including: Vice President West Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, President of the St John Ambulance West Midlands, and Former Chairman and Pro Chancellor of the Birmingham City University. Mr Sabapathy is also a financial analyst and educationalist.

Professor Peter Winstanley and Mr Stokes have no declared political activities or ministerial appointments.

Professor Winstanley, Mr Sabapathy and Mr Stokes will be entitled to the salary of £6,096 per annum, which is the current rate for all Non-Executive Directors of NHS Trusts over the country.

Locally, the Trust is also pleased to announce that current Deputy Chair Nick Stokes will continue in this role and Non-Executive Samantha Tubb has taken on the additional role of Senior Independent Director, which is an important Board role as the Trust prepares to become a Foundation Trust.

UHCW NHS Trust provides acute care to a 500,000 people across Coventry and Warwickshire and specialist care to a population of one million people.
