St Cross team recognised for care for patients with heart conditions

17:00 19/05/2017

A caring team of nurses, dieticians and therapists at the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby have been shortlisted for a national award by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Team at the hospital have been shortlisted for Team of the Year at the BHF’s Alliance Awards. The awards celebrate excellent work by teams and individuals to improve care for patients with cardiovascular conditions.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Team at St Cross care for approximately 300 patients a year who are recovering from heart surgery or who have other heart problems.

They support people to return to everyday life, through medication, diet and a gentle exercise programme, as well as helping them manage psychologically with the life-changing diagnosis of having a heart condition.

As part of their application for the award, the team submitted a letter from a grateful patient. They are up against three other teams for the top award.

Jo Holdsworth, Manager of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team at the Hospital of St Cross, said:
“Having a heart condition shouldn’t prevent you from having an active and fulfilling life, and the team is so proud to be shortlisted for this award.

“We feel like winners already to be recognised for the care we’re providing to our patients, and we’re very grateful to the BHF for naming us in their shortlist.”

The BHF's Alliance Awards ceremony will take place at the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) Conference in Manchester on Tuesday, June 6.
