Equality and diversity
We serve one of the most diverse populations in the UK in respect of language, culture, religion and ethnicity, and we seek to reflect this in the make-up of our workforce.
No form of discrimination is tolerated within our hospitals, we are committed to eliminating discrimination on the basis of gender (including transgender), age, disability, race, religion, sexual orientation, caring responsibilities or social class and we have policies and initiatives in place to embrace, support and promote awareness of the diverse needs of patients, staff and visitors. We aim to provide accessible services, delivered for the needs of each individual and does not exclude anyone.
The Trust's diversity and equalities work is led by our dedicated Head of Diversity, who supports the Trust Board, managers, staff and partners in meeting their responsibilities under the Scheme. Equality and Diversity training is given to all staff, managers and the Trust Board to ensure our service is accessible and equitable for all.
Our Single Equality Scheme
Our Single Equality Scheme is at the heart of the drive to maintain a working environment where staff are able to do their job to the best of their ability without having to face unlawful discrimination or harassment. The scheme also ensures that the services we deliver are relevant and appropriate to the communities that we serve. The Scheme is the Trust’s response to statutory general and specific duties.
