What is the Friends and Family Test?

The Friends and Family Test is a important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services have the opportunity to provide feedback. From April 2020, new NHS England guidance invites feedback on the overall experience of using the service. When combined with the supplementary follow-up free text question, the Friends and Family Test provides a mechanism to highlight both good and poor patient experience.

FFT provides a broad measure of patient experience that can be used alongside other data to inform service improvement and patient choice.

FFT feedback is collected by text message, but patients, family members and careers can also leave their feedback online at Survey Centre - University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire (uhcw.nhs.uk).
