Renal

The UHCW Renal and Transplant Team are aware that these are worrying and uncertain times for all of us. Whilst a large number of people in the UK are likely to require treatment in hospital with Covid-19 we are aware that people with kidney disease still need management or monitoring as they did before. We will do everything possible to ensure that the care of patients with kidney disease within Coventry and Warwickshire remains safe and optimal.

In order to maintain our critical services such as dialysis there may need to be some changes made, often at short notice, which may cause some disruption. We will always try to keep this disruption to the minimum and we are very sorry where this becomes necessary. We ask that you bear with us during these changes.

Every decision about your care, whether for an operation, medication, treatment (e.g. dialysis) or investigations (e.g. scans or biopsies), is taken after weighing up the potential benefits and potential risks. The Covid-19 situation is likely to significantly change this balance in certain situations. Your individual clinician (kidney doctor, renal or dialysis nurse, dietitian, etc) will try to communicate any changes to your care. Where system-wide changes are required at short-notice (see haemodialysis and transplantation below) individual communication may not be immediately possible.

The following guide gives some information on the UHCW Renal and Transplant Unit services and where you can find up to date information. The links to other websites such as NHS England and Kidney Care UK are excellent sources.

We can be contacted on the following numbers. Please be aware that we are very short staffed at this time but will do our best to deal with your call or get back to you if you have had to leave a message.
