Renal Dietetics

In view of the COVID 19 situation, we have to adapt the way that we provide the renal dietetic service to accommodate a reduced work force and a changing work load.

Unfortunately we are currently only able to provide telephone reviews for urgent patients. If you have already seen a renal dietitian, please continue with the advice provided.

There are some people who will need to make contact with us. If any of the statements below apply to you, please telephone 02476966161, there is an answerphone facility and all messages are checked regularly:

Indications for you to contact the renal dietitians:

  • If you are UNINTENTIONALLY losing weight
  • If you are struggling with nausea, taste changes and/or vomiting and it is significantly reducing the amount you normally eat
  • If you monitor your own blood results and your potassium levels are >5.5mmol/l (not on dialysis or on peritoneal dialysis), or >6.0 (on haemodialysis)

If you contact us with the one of the above symptoms, we will aim to provide you with a telephone appointment, as soon as we are able.

The Kidney Care UK website has very comprehensive information regarding diet and kidney disease, which you may find helpful.

Once the COVID 19 situation is over, should you require an appointment relating to your original referral please phone the Dietetic Department on 02476966161.

May we take this opportunity to wish you and your family the best during this time.
