Having a baby in the Neonatal Unit can be a challenging and emotional experience for parents. Neonatal units provide specialised care for newborns who require extra medical attention due to premature birth, low birth weight, or medical complications.

While it can be distressing to see your baby in the Neonatal Unit, here at UHCW, our unit is staffed with skilled healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to provide the best possible care for both the baby and families.

Parents of babies in the Neonatal Unit may experience a range of emotions, including fear, worry, and sadness, but they also find strength and hope in the resilience of their little ones and the support of the medical team. Our Neonatal Unit offers support services for parents, including counselling, education, and opportunities for bonding with their baby through skin-to-skin contact and kangaroo care.

Despite the challenges, families often find comfort in knowing that their baby is receiving the specialised care they need to thrive, and they celebrate each milestone and progress, no matter how small, with immense joy and gratitude.
