Pelvic and perineal health

Pelvic health means the muscles, joints and bones in your pelvis are strong, healthy and working normally, allowing you to move comfortably and helping to control your bladder (wee), bowels (wind and poo) and support your pelvic organs (your bladder, bowel and uterus).

If your pelvis isn’t working well, you can experience pelvic health problems, which can include not having full control of your bladder (leaking wee) or bowels (leaking wind or poo), feeling pain when you move or prolapse (having a heavy feeling in your pelvis).

Pelvic health problems are common during pregnancy and after birth. If you do experience a pelvic health problem, you don’t have to live with it, there is specialist physiotherapy treatment available.
