Clinical neurophysiology is a diagnostic medical specialty which provides information about the functions of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, neuro-muscular junction, muscles, eyes/vision and ears/hearing. Any abnormality in conduction of nerve impulses may cause several disorders and appropriate diagnosis is essential for treatment. Diagnosis can be made by evaluating or assessing the nerve functioning using various diagnostic tools. The department performs studies for a wide range of conditions and receives referrals from consultants within UHCW and the West Midlands, as well as restricted GP services.
