Advice for patients during industrial action by junior doctors

As you may be aware, industrial action is planned by some junior doctors from 7am on 13th July to 7am on 18th July.

On these days our emergency services will continue to run as normal, including our emergency department and our Urgent Treatment Centres.

Please only call 999 if it is a medical or mental health emergency (when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk).

Where the situation is not life-threatening, alternative support will be available through NHS 111 online.

If we have not contacted you, please attend your appointment as planned. The NHS will contact you if your appointment needs to be rescheduled due to strike action.

GP practices will continue to be open during the junior doctors’ strike, so please continue to attend your appointments unless you are contacted and told otherwise.

Ahead of the industrial action, the advice for anyone that is travelling to other areas is to:

  • Make sure you have ordered and collected any repeat medicines.
  • Remember that your first port of call for GP care is your home practice, which will be able to provide their usual services as well as arranging for prescriptions to be sent to any pharmacy you choose.

For support and advice on when to call 999 and when to go to A&E , you can visit the NHS UK website.
