Awards recognise Trust’s drive to become World Class

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) is one of the top organisations in the country for engaging with its employees, according to a national awards body.

UHCW’s Workforce and Communications teams have been shortlisted for the Employee Engagement Award at this year’s Personnel Today Awards.

The Personnel Today Awards aim to recognise the leaders in HR from across the public and private sector.

UHCW got the nod as a result of the Trust’s highly successful Together Towards World Class organisational development programme, which is based on engaging staff and transferring their feedback into actions and positive changes for the organisation.

Chief Workforce and Information Officer, Karen Martin said: “It is fantastic to be shortlisted for such a prestigious national award. This is a recognition of not only of both teams work but the wider UHCW team and we are beginning to see the scheme make real differences to our goal to be coming a world class healthcare organisation.”

Together Towards World Class was launched in March 2014. Changes made as part of the programme have contributed to significant improvements in national and local patient experience and staff survey results. These include:

• the launch of a leadership programme for staff
• a new staff recognition programme
• introduction of a weekly newsletter
• ward information boards for patients and visitors
• the creation of more video and infographic content to communicate and engage with staff and the public

The awards night will be held on Wednesday, November 30, at the Grosvenor Hotel in London.
