Defibrillators presented to Warwickshire Golf and Country Club in memory of beloved UHCW doctor

A heartfelt tribute to a much‑loved doctor has resulted in the installation of two life‑saving public access defibrillators at Warwickshire Golf and Country Club.

Known to friends and colleagues as Sujey, Dr Sujeyanthan Jayaratnasingam was a Consultant Anaesthetist in the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust, where he worked for 29 years with distinction and compassion.

He passed away a year ago, leaving behind a legacy of clinical excellence, kindness and warmth that continues to be felt by those who knew him.

Following a fundraising initiative led by colleagues, friends and family, and supported by UHCW Charity, more than £10,000 was raised. The funds have enabled the purchase of two defibrillators for the golf club, where Sujey had been a member.

The defibrillators were formally presented during a visit to the club by UHCW Chief Medical Officer Jonathan Young, alongside Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Mathew Patteril and Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr Alan Park.

“It is reassuring to know that Sujey’s legacy will continue to help safeguard the lives of others,” said Jonathan.

“This tribute stands as a fitting reflection of his life - combining his love of golf with his lifelong dedication to care - and as a reminder of the profound impact he continues to have on those who knew him. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed.”

One of the defibrillators is the club’s first to be mounted on a roving golf buggy, allowing it to be deployed rapidly across the course and significantly enhancing emergency response capability. Both devices will be available for use by members of the public if required.

Money was raised through a charity walk in July 2025, a golf tournament and additional fundraising activities organised by Alan and supported by colleagues and friends.

Richard Lee, Golf Operations Manager at Warwickshire Golf and Country Club, added: “We are humbled by this very kind donation.

“These defibrillators will continue Dr Jayaratnasingam’s legacy, helping to safeguard the health of our community and serving as a lasting reminder of the difference one person can make."
