Double success for UHCW Pharmacy following Research Unit and Dispensary Robot unveiling

Pharmaceutical care at UHCW has been revolutionised thanks to the launch of the Pharmacy Medicines Research Unit (PMRU) and the ground-breaking new Dispensary Robot.

The PMRU, located on the ground floor in the main foyer of University Hospital, is easily accessible for patients taking part in clinical trials.

Its opening was attended by Professor Andy Hardy, Chief Executive Officer, Ceri Jones, Head of Research and Development and Hardeep Bagga, Director of Pharmacy, alongside a host of medical professionals and researchers from UHCW.

This new facility strengthens the Trust's position as a centre of excellence where cutting-edge research happens, as well as attracting exciting collaborations with local and national partners.

Mojid Khan, Lead Pharmacist - Clinical Trials, said: "The Pharmacy Medicines Research Unit represents a major leap forward in our commitment to advancing medical research and enhancing patient outcomes.

"Our goal is to extend research opportunities to all patients, bridging the gap of inequality where research is often limited.

"The PMRU will also contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge and the development of treatments, with insights gained from these trials benefitting the local community and contributing to medical advancements at a national level."

The successes continued for the Pharmacy unit following the launch of the long-awaited dispensary robot.

With the ability to pick up to 1,600 medicine packs an hour, the introduction of the robot will allow pharmacy staff to spend more time with ward colleagues to support their medicine handling processes.

The inpatient pharmacy team formerly processed around two million hand picked transactions annually, with the launch of the robot allowing this process to become far more efficient.
