Family’s heartfelt donation thanks dialysis team at Hospital of St Cross for father’s care

A family has returned to the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby to say thank you for the care their father received - and to present a donation of £2,552 in his memory.

Peter Pryde’s son Scott and daughter Kimberly visited the Ash Dialysis Unit to hand over the cheque to The Friends of St Cross, recognising the kindness and support shown to Peter while he was a dialysis patient between 2006 and 2010 before receiving a kidney transplant.

Scott said: “Our family wanted to recognise the high level of care and kindness that my father received when he was a patient at the unit. My company has held three charity golf days and this cheque brings the total donated to The Friends in my father’s memory to £9,727.”

For the family, the visit was an opportunity to remember Peter and show their appreciation for the staff who cared for him.

Ash Dialysis Unit Manager Cristina Bajan said: “I was a nurse in the unit when Peter was a patient and remember him fondly. He had a great sense of humour.

“The team are always delighted to hear from friends and relatives of our patients, and we are very grateful to Scott and Kimberly for coming back to visit us and for thinking of the unit in this way.”

The Friends of St Cross said the donation will be primarily used to support patients and staff in the Ash Dialysis Unit, in line with the family’s wishes.

Willy Goldschmidt, President of The Friends of St Cross, said: “We are most grateful for this generous donation.

“As well as various items of equipment which we have bought for the unit, The Friends created a service in 2017 which improves the patient experience by running bingo games up to eight times a week. These help entertain patients who are on dialysis for three hours, three times a week, with small token prizes donated for those who call ‘house’.”
