Live Sky Blues commentary brings match day magic back to University Hospital patients

With Coventry City FC closing in on a return to the top flight, patients at University Hospital won’t miss a kick, with live commentary returning to Coventry Hospital Radio (CHR).

From Friday 3rd April, when the Sky Blues take on Derby County, patients will be able to use their beside units to tune into a special live show hosted by Moz Baker, Clive Brookes and Ashley Brookes.

The announcement sees the radio station return to its roots after it was originally founded when an American patient, keen to listen to coverage of the club, found it wasn’t possible from the hospital.

Once discharged, he set up a trust fund which paid for landlines linking the hospital to the club’s former home, Highfield Road.

The CHR team will be covering every home and away match with full 90-minute live commentary, as well as pre-match build-up and post-match analysis.

The commentary team said: “We’re delighted to be broadcasting the final seven games of what has been an exciting campaign for the Sky Blues to beside units at University Hospital free of charge.

“Hopefully it will conclude with promotion – setting up another thrilling season for both the club and the radio station.”

Patients can tune in to matches using channel one on their bedside units. Broadcasts for both Easter weekend matches start at 7pm, with kick off at 8pm, and match highlights every Thursday from 6pm.
