Next stop University Hospital for bus users

It’s all change at University Hospital, Coventry as University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) officially opens its new bus interchange.

The new interchange, developed with travel partners Centro, will hold nine bus stops, which doubles the capacity of the previous interchange. It also has a new shelter that protects customers from the worst of the weather, as well as providing has state-of-the-art real-time information at each stand.

Clive Robinson, Sustainability Manager said: “We strive to continually improve the experience of customers using bus services to get to and from University Hospital.

“The Trust supports sustainable travel solutions that improve health. One full bus takes 60 cars off the road, which improves air quality, improves physical activity and reduces noise, whilst improving health and wellbeing.”

Centro is the delivery arm of the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority (ITA).

Cllr John McNicholas, chair of the ITA’s Transport Delivery Committee, which oversees Centro, said: “Good public transport links are essential to a hospital.

“I am delighted we have been able to work with the Trust in delivering a modern interchange that will meet the needs of both visitors and staff.”

UHCW will continue to work with Centro, local authorities, and the bus operators to improve services.
