Nominations needed for annual staff awards

Patients of University Hospital in Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby are being asked to share their stories of outstanding patient care or customer service for an annual awards ceremony.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust is calling for patients and relatives to nominate staff and volunteers at both hospitals.

The Outstanding Service and Care Awards (OSCAs) have been run by the Trust for the last eight years, and celebrate the achievements by staff and volunteers.

Last year, the Trust received over 370 nominations for staff and teams in a wide variety of roles across the Trust. One of last year’s winners, Healthcare Assistant Aimee Bates, was nominated by a member of the public for the compassionate care she provided to her at a time of need.

This year there are eight categories for public nominations.

Andy Hardy, Chief Executive Officer of UHCW NHS Trust, said:
“I am proud to announce that the nominations are now open for this year’s OSCAs.

“I am always astounded at the amazing levels of care and dedication displayed by our staff and volunteers, and this is a fantastic opportunity to honour them.

“I’d like to encourage any members of the public who have received outstanding care or service at either of our hospitals in the last 12 months to help us celebrate the staff responsible by nominating them for an award, and telling us how they helped make a difference.”

The award categories open for public nominations are:

Going the Extra Mile – for any member of staff who has gone over and above their role to improve care for patients or relatives.

Compassion in Care - for a frontline member of staff (e.g. nurse, doctor) or team delivering patient care.

Behind the Scenes Team or Individual of the Year – for non-clinical staff providing an essential service such as finance, human resources or administration.

Innovation or Service Development – for staff whose innovative ideas or research have led to improvements in care.

Promoting Equality and Diversity – for staff whose contributions have promoted equality and diversity within the Trust.

Leader of the Year – for a member of staff who has demonstrated they are a good manager or leader.

Volunteer of the Year – for a volunteer at University Hospital or the Hospital of St Cross who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and support to patients, staff or visitors.

Chief Executive Officer’s Award – for an individual or team who has made an exceptional contribution to the Trust.

Patients or members of the public can complete their nomination online via UHCW’s website at

Alternatively they can ask for a nomination form to be posted to them by emailing or calling 024 7696 7617.

The closing date for nominations is midday on Friday, May 20. The winners will be announced in September.
