Three years of new developments at St Cross

The Hospital of St Cross has been transformed over the last three years as money has been invested to expand services at the hospital.

The investments at the hospital in Rugby by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) have meant that patients are able to get the highest standards of care closer to home.

Investments have included recent work in partnership with the Friends of St Cross to create the new Friends Blood Taking Unit, which opened in December 2015. The £400,000 redevelopment of the unit was made possible thanks to the fantastic donation of £130,000 from the Friends of St Cross.

The new unit has received great feedback from patients and staff. Thanks to the efforts by staff, and the new waiting system, waiting times have reduced significantly, despite a 20% increase in attendances.

There are also exciting plans to improve access for patients even further, by offering Saturday and evening blood-taking and introducing a new appointments booking system. Works have also recently been ongoing on a new car park for the unit.

In September 2015, a £50,000 refurbishment included the creation of a standalone Paediatric Outpatients Department to open on the St Cross site, meaning that clinics could be extended and more appointments can be offered to parents.

In addition to building works, more services are now offered to local patients than ever before.

These include the introduction of Ear, Nose and Throat surgery at the hospital from April 2015, as well as patients from the Rugby area being able to book injections to treat their wet AMD in the hospital’s state-of-the-art Ophthalmology centre.

Juliet Starkey, Hospital Manager, said:
“We’ve seen some great developments at the hospital over the last year or so, which allow us to treat more patients than ever before.

“As well as the building work to improve facilities on site, we have also seen lots of new services opening at the hospital.

“There are also lots of exciting plans for the future as we continue to expand our services in Rugby.

“We’d like to thank the Friends of St Cross, who have continued to provide great support to the hospital to complement the investments made by the Trust, for example funding decoration and furniture to refurbished areas.”
