UHCW shortlisted for healthcare innovation award

UHCW ICT System Development TeamAn innovative nursing app developed by the ICT System Development team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust has been shortlisted for a prestigious award celebrating the best of innovation in healthcare around the region.

The team have been given the nod in the MidTECH category of the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN)’s second annual Celebration of Innovation awards for their Care Clocks app.

The Care Clocks app tracks the amount of time nurses and other frontline staff spend on tasks, to help them make sure they are spending as much time as possible on patient care and to improve efficiency.

Karen Martin, Chief Workforce and Information Officer, said: “The Care Clocks app is a really innovative tool that ensures we’re giving the best quality care possible to our patients.

“A lot of hard work has gone into the app and I’m really proud that the team are getting further recognition for their work.”

This is the latest success for the app, and the team behind it. They were finalists at both the Nursing Times Awards and Health Service Journal Awards last year.

Dr Christopher Parker, Managing Director of the WMAHSN, said: “We are delighted that UHCW has been shortlisted for the MidTECH Award.

“More than 100 entries were submitted and while it was a very tough decision to shortlist entries in the light of such a strong field, the other judges and I were in agreement that UHCW’s entry showed an astonishing breadth of scope and an approach that is truly innovative, transforming patient care, providing solutions to significant challenges and breaking down barriers across our region. It was truly inspiring to be involved with judging the awards, and I am looking forward to seeing the eventual winners announced at the Celebration of Innovation Event with enthusiasm.”

The awards were established to recognise and celebrate the work of individuals and organisations in developing better healthcare for local people, and the ceremony will provide an opportunity to celebrate achievements from across the West Midlands.

The winners will be announced at the Celebration of Innovation Awards ceremony at Hilton Metropole, Birmingham on Thursday, July 20.
