Centre for Hearing & Balance Disorders

The Centre for Hearing and Balance Disorders provides various tests to establish the extent and cause of hearing and balance problems. We also provide rehabilitation, practical support and ongoing assistance to people with hearing loss, balance difficulties or associated problems such as tinnitus.

Since 2013, our services have been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service in line with the Improving Quality in Physiological Measurement Services Framework.

A Consultant Clinical Scientist heads the department consisting of a team of Healthcare Science Professionals working in various audiology sub-specialities.

All our audiologists are state registered with the HCPC, where this is mandatory, or with the RCCP, which is not mandatory but something we insist on.
The UHCW Centre for Hearing & Balance Disorders has achieved national accreditation with the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

 Accreditation number: 7944
We provide the newborn hearing screening programme, all paediatric hearing services and services to adults with complex hearing loss or complex needs, in addition to providing tinnitus support and balance services.
Our department offers behind the ear digital hearing aids to all clients in line with Department of Health guidelines. We launched a bone anchored hearing aid service (BAHA) in 2020.

Newborn Hearing Screening Programme

The NHS Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) commissioned by Public Health England offers all new parents the opportunity to have their baby’s hearing screened within the first few weeks of life.

Within the Trust we provide hearing screening services for families who wish to have their baby’s hearing screened.

This screen is offered to all babies and will usually take place on the post-natal ward shortly after birth.

If we do not capture you as an inpatient, a clinical appointment will be made at one of our three community clinics that we offer locally.

We offer the following clinics:

Mondays - appointments at The Orchard Centre, Rugby, CV21 3SR

Wednesdays - appointments at City of Coventry Health Centre, CV1 4FS

Saturdays - appointments at UHCW NHS Trust, CV2 2DX

If you have any queries, please call us on 02476 965401.

Since 2016, we do not provide routine hearing aid services. These are provided by High Street providers under NHS contract.

We provide specialist hearing aid services at University Hospital, Coventry, and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.

Most paediatric audiology services and balance services are only carried out in Coventry. If you have hearing aids fitted by our service and are having difficulties, you can contact us directly to book an appointment, which will be offered within a week.
Patients are referred to us either from their GP or hospital consultants such as the Ear, Nose and Throat Team, Paediatricians or Neurologists and are seen for an initial appointment within six weeks.
We are based in the Outpatients departments (Clinic eight) of University Hospital and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby. Self check-in is in operation at Rugby so please take a seat after booking in.
