Long Covid Rehabilitation Service

Our service is for people who are still experiencing the effects of Covid and feel like they have never fully recovered from the initial illness. Long Covid is also known as ‘post covid-19 syndrome’ and can cover a large range of symptoms that persist for 12 weeks or more after you first had Covid-19. Common symptoms include fatigue, breathlessness, pain and brain fog.

We offer education, support and guidance to help manage Long Covid symptoms and their impact on daily life, including:

  • Fatigue management
  • Breathlessness management
  • Optimising rest and recovery
  • Cognitive strategies
  • Advice on self-care, e.g. sleep
  • Emotional well-being
  • Guidance about managing work, exercise and other daily activities.

People with severe symptoms, or the suggestion of other underlying conditions are jointly managed with medical doctors.

We offer face to face appointments in clinic, home visits for housebound patients, virtual appointments and group sessions.

Specialities in the Long Covid Rehabilitation Team include:

Occupational Therapy (OT) - supports people to engage in the activities, roles and routines that are important to them, at home, at work and in community and leisure settings. This often involves fatigue management advice.

Physiotherapy - supports you to maximise your function. This often involves advice around managing breathlessness.

Psychology - provides psychological support to help you manage any changes in your life after having Covid-19.

We work alongside the Long Covid team based at University Hospital, Coventry and meet fortnightly. Specialities based at the hospital include medical doctors and a specialist physiotherapist. Together we make up the Long Covid service for Coventry & Rugby and patients can access all specialities within the service once referred.
