It is amongst the first team in the country that can conduct a wide range of complex diagnostic investigations including respiratory physiology, interventional bronchoscopy with thoracic surgery, endoscopic services and the department has a sleep laboratory. It has also been at the forefront of providing interventional respiratory services as well as ambulatory and domiciliary services and it has a pulmonary hypertension satellite clinic in collaboration with the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Cambridge.
The department spans across several areas at University Hospital, Coventry on wards 30, 31 and 31a which treat infectious diseases, and provides outpatient clinics in Coventry and at the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.
We also care for infectious respiratory conditions such as tuberculosis and long-COVID. In addition to treating long-term conditions, we work in collaboration with Birmingham Heartlands Hospital to treat asthma, we perform continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) non-invasive ventilation (NIV) treatment for sleep and ventilation disorders and we offer patients a tertiary interstitial lung disease (ILD) referral service. Our consultants also provide pulmonary rehabilitation support and respiratory physiotherapy.
Our main wards and clinics are based at University Hospital, Coventry and we have clinics, a sleep laboratory and a sleep ventilation clinic at the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby.
