Urology

Your Urology appointment might be changing…

We are temporarily relocating Urology outpatient appointments from Clinic 4 at University Hospital, Coventry and the City of Coventry Health Centre to the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby (Hoskyn Urology). If you are due to attend an appointment between the end of October through to February 2026, your clinic will now take place at the Hospital of St Cross.

A small number of clinic appointments will also take place on Ward 33 at University Hospital, Coventry. You will have been notified of this change by the hospital (phone call and/or letter).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my Urology appointment moving from University Hospital to an alternate location?

We are creating a new Urology Investigations Unit (UIU) at University Hospital Coventry. Clinic 4 in the Outpatients Department is to be turned into the UIU which will open in 2026, allowing for faster diagnoses and reduced waiting times. National guidance strongly recommends that Urology departments invest in Urological Investigations Units (UIUs) which co-locate outpatient consultations, diagnostic procedures, therapeutic interventions and treatments in one place. Building work will start in December 2025, while this is taking place Urology appointments will move temporarily to Ward 33 in University Hospital and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.

How will I know whether my appointment has moved to alternate location?

We have now made contact (telephone and/or letter) with all patients with clinic appointments arranged between the end of October 2025 and end of February 2026 to advise that your appointment has been temporarily relocated. If you haven’t been contacted by the Trust (by telephone or letter) please turn up for your appointment in the usual location.

Will there be parking at the alternate locations of my appointment?

Yes, visitor parking (payment required) is available at the Hospital of St Cross (appointments on the former Hoskyn Ward) and at University Hospital (Ward 33). You can also travel by bus from Rugby town centre and University Hospital, Coventry. If travelling by car to the Hospital of St Cross, patients are advised to park in Car Park C or D, which are close to the former Hoskyn Ward.

Do I get a choice of where to attend my clinic?

Clinics are being moved temporarily whilst work on a new Urology Investigations Unit takes place in the Outpatients Department at University Hospital, Coventry. By relocating clinics for a short time to our other hospital in Rugby, we can continue to deliver timely care to our patients. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this might cause you, please contact your doctor in advance of your appointment if you are unable to attend the appointment at the alternate location. Please note that missing an appointment may require a new referral and cause delays to other patients who could have used the slot.

What do I do if I am not able to travel to the alternate location for my appointment?

We ask that you make every effort to attend your appointment, including asking a family member, friend to help or make use of any community transport. Please contact your doctor in advance of the appointment if you are unable to attend the appointment. Please note that missing an appointment may require a new referral and cause delays to other patients who could have used the slot.

I require ambulance transport to attend my Urology appointment – will there be access at the relocated clinic at the Hospital of St Cross?

The clinic on the former Hoskyn Ward at the Hospital of St Cross cannot accept patients who are not independently mobile. If you require ambulance transport with mobility assistance, we will make alternative arrangements for you to be reviewed at University Hospital. Please contact your consultant’s Medical Secretary in advance of your appointment to reschedule your appointment.

How long will Urology clinics be relocated for?

Building work is expected to start in December 2025, and it is hoped Urology appointments will move back to University Hospital from the new Urology Investigations Unit in early 2026
