Meals

During your hospital stay we will provide you with three meals a day. We can also provide lunch box snacks if you have missed a meal.

We operate protected mealtimes in all of our adult wards. At set times throughout the day, all non-urgent clinical activity stops to help patients eat their meals in a calm atmosphere.

Meal times

  • Lunch Midday-1pm
  • Dinner 5pm – 6pm

Our main menu is on a two-week cycle: Menu Week One and Menu Week Two.

Vegetarian and vegan options are coded on the menus but we also have a separate vegan menu.

For further choice. we offer a cultural menu with a range of Asian dishes including Halal, African and Caribbean dishes.

We also offer a finger food menu which may be more suitable for patients with dementia or patients who have difficulty using cutlery.

There are also a range of menus for patients on a texture modified diet:

Level 4 – Pureed
Level 6 – Soft and bite-sized

We do not have a separate easy chew menu but suitable options are coded on the menus.

For patients with food allergies, we have a separate Gluten Free menu and allergy-free menu.

Ward staff can provide detailed information regarding ingredients and allergens contained in all of our dishes.

For our renal patients we have a separate Renal Menu. Our standard main menus are also coded for lower potassium choices.

We offer hot drinks and snacks throughout the day. If your meal is unsuitable, please let your nurse know so we can offer an alternative where possible.

The Food Information for Consumers Regulations came into force in December 2014. The 14 allergens are gluten, crustaceans, molluscs, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, eggs. Soybeans, milk, celery, mustard, sesame, lupin and sulphur dioxide.
