RD&I Stimulating NMAHP Research Capability at UHCW Survey

In November 2014, RD&I undertook a survey of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals (NMAHPs) and health care scientists, looking to assess the current level of research activity amongst these groups. The Survey went out to over 3,000 NMAHPs and 221 replies were obtained.

The main results from the survey include:

• 85% of respondents want further opportunities to engage in research
• The main barriers to undertaking research were identified as lack of funding, more advice and support and opportunities to release staff
• A list of over 100 interested individuals came forward wanting to know about future opportunities
• 20 respondents from a variety of specialisms across the Trust are undertaking postgraduate qualifications and 21% of respondents were currently undertaking research
• There is a pool of well qualified NMAHP staff at the Trust. 75% of respondents have degrees, of which two thirds of these had masters degrees and PhDs and could potentially pursue research careers in future
