Junior doctors at UHCW (Clinical attachments and electives)

Clinical Attachments and electives

International doctors applying for jobs and preparing for the PLAB2 examinations or medical students during their penultimate year in medicine may find it useful to undertake a clinical attachment. This is a non-paid, no patient contact observership.

Clinical attachments provide invaluable experience of the NHS, and can help overseas doctors gain a reference for future job applications. Doctors do not need to be GMC registered to undergo a clinical attachment as they will not be carrying out any procedures. Usually, clinical attachments are only offered for a period of a minimum of 2 weeks and and maximum of 4 weeks, and any further extension is subject to evaluation / recommendation from the supervising consultant.

In order to be considered for a clinical attachment, you must seek supervising consultant approval from the speciality of your interest.
